pool dehumidifier

How do I test/replace a condensate pump? ?
Water is pooling at the base of my furnace. The hot water heater is not attached to the furnace nor is a dehumidifier. I suspect that insects may have made nests inside one of the lines because my house sat vacate for almost a year and my basement was full of spiders when I moved in. Before I replace the condensate pump, I’d like to know how to test it.
What kind of furnace do you have? Is it a steam boiler or is it a condensing type hot air furnace? Do you have an air conditioner evaporator coil that the pump is to pump away? This will help define what may be wrong.
